A detachment of Russian Navy ships led by the Admiral Grigorovich frigate armed with Kalibr cruise missiles has arrived in Pakistan to participate in the Aman-2021 multinational naval exercises, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters.
"Today at 07:00 Moscow time, a detachment of ships of the Russian Navy entered the territorial waters of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and then docked in the port of Karachi, the main naval base of the Pakistan Navy. At the invitation of the Pakistani side, a detachment of ships of the Navy will participate in a multinational naval exercise "Aman-2021," to be held in the Arabian Sea on February 12-16," the department said.
The Russian Navy is represented at the maneuvers by ships of the Black Sea Fleet: in addition to the Admiral Grigorovich, the patrol ship Dmitry Rogachev and rescue tug SB-739 joined the group.
From February 12 to 14, the ministry specifies, in the framework of exercises there will be planning conferences. Participation of representatives of the delegation of the Russian Navy in the ninth international maritime conference is also planned.
The naval phase of exercise Aman-2021 will be held on February 15 and 16. According to the Defense Ministry, the purpose of the maneuvers is the development of military cooperation between the countries participating in the exercises in the interests of security and stability at sea and exchange of experience of sailors in the fight against piracy.
In addition to Russia and Pakistan, ships from five other countries are expected to take part in the maneuvers. Observers from more than 30 countries will be present at the maneuvers.
The Defense Ministry stressed that the exercise "Aman-2021" is a non-aligned exercise. "All countries participating in the naval exercises participate in the exercise independently (at the invitation of the Pakistani side)," the ministry specified.
