The special tribunal for Lebanon has found Salim Ayyash, linked to the Shiite organization Hezbollah, guilty of all charges in the case of the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. The decision was announced on Tuesday by judge David Re, who is presiding over the case.
"The trial chamber found Ayyash guilty on all charges," he said.
He was charged with crimes such as committing an act of terrorism, conspiracy to commit an act of terrorism, premeditated murder and attempted premeditated murder.
Three other accused in the case - Hassan Merhi, Hussein Oneissi and Asaad Sabra - were acquitted of any involvement in the crime. They were suspected of conspiracy to commit a terrorist attack and complicity in premeditated murder and attempted murder.
The Lebanon tribunal was established in 2007 by a decision of the UN Security Council to bring to justice those involved in the terrorist attack in Beirut on February 14, 2005, which killed 22 people, including Hariri, and injured 226 others.
