Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Thursday that the use of the Russian vaccine against the coronavirus Sputnik V will soon begin in the republic.
"I would like to report that the use of Sputnik V will soon begin," the health minister said following a meeting of the scientific council on the coronavirus. His speech was broadcast by Haber Turk television channel.
Koca reminded that two vaccines are currently being mass vaccinated in Turkey: CoronaVac by Chinese pharmaceutical corporation Sinovac Biotech, which is a weakened version of a new type of coronavirus, and Pfizer's BioNTech. According to Koca, Turkey also plans to begin testing the third vaccine of its own production.
According to the Turkish Ministry of Health, more than 20 million people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus in the country so far, with more than 12 million receiving the first component of the vaccine.
