The parade, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic war, was held at the Russian airbase Khmeimim in Syria, attended by more than a thousand military personnel.
"We had the honor to participate in the parade dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic war on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic in the same line with the Syrian army soldiers. Our responsibility for the present, future and heroic past unite us... We will be worthy of the feat of the Great Patriotic war generation!" the commander of the group of troops of the Russian Armed forces in Syria, Lieutenant General Alexander Chaiko said.
More than a thousand Russian and Syrian servicemen took part in the parade dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory at the Khmeimim base. Military personnel in historical uniforms of the WWII, management officers and military personnel of the Russian group of troops, a mixed aviation regiment, a special medical unit, a military police unit, a military band and a combined parade of female soldiers marched on foot. Syria was represented by special forces of the Syrian army and air force, as well as the "Commandos" special forces assault regiment and representatives of the Naval Academy of the armed forces of the Arab country.
As a part of the mobile column a Russian armored cars "Tiger-M" and "Typhoon", BTR-80 and BTR-82A, antiaircraft missile/gun systems "Pantsir" and tactical "Iskander-M", and military equipment ground units of the Syrian armed forces, in general, 52 units, drove in the parade. The air part of the parade involved 17 aircraft: Mi-8ATMSH, Mi-35, SA-342 Gazelle helicopters and Su-24, Su-34, Su-35, An-30 and An-72 military transport aircraft, as well as A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft.
The parade was attended by Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Syria Alexander Efimov, Syrian Defense Minister, Corps General Ali Abdul Ayub, Minister of Presidential Affairs of the SAR Mansur Azam, commander of the Syrian naval forces division General Yasser al-Haffa, as well as the governors of Latakia and Tartus provinces Hadur al-Salem and Safuan Abusada.
