As a result of mass riots in Karakalpakstan 18 people were killed and 243 people in total were injured, Abror Mamatov, a representative of the Prosecutor General's Office of Uzbekistan, said on Monday.
"During the mass unrest in Nukus on July 1 and 2, 18 people died and a total of 243 citizens, including 38 law enforcement officers, received injuries of varying severity," Mamatov said in a live broadcast on the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.
At present, according to the Uzbek National Guard, which is coordinating the actions of all law enforcement agencies of the country to ensure the emergency regime, most of the injured are already at home.
"Now out of 243 people who went to medical institutions, 149 have received the necessary medical care and have been released to their homes, 94 people are in medical institutions," National Guard spokesman Davron Dzhumaniyazov told TASS.
