200 000 Muslims celebrated Uraza Bayram in St. Petersburg

07 June 2019

In St. Petersburg,  more than 200 000 Muslims participated in Id al-Fitr celebrations.

According to preliminary information of independent observers, about 170 thousand Muslims came to the festive prayer at the walls of the St. Petersburg Cathedral Mosque near the Gorkovskaya metro station.

The mosque traditionally failed to accommodate everyone, the streets were blocked, changes were made to the work of urban transport: so that Muslims could comfortably stay near the building, the work of the trams was interrupted.

Zhafyar Khazrat Ponchaev informed that in the Primorsky District about 25 thousand people took part in a festive namaz, up to 12 thousand Muslims performed a prayer house on Sennaya.  More than 3 thousand people came to Bering street to pray.

This year the festive prayer took place also in the Red Village, where up to 5 thousand Muslims came. In the Cathedral mosque the festive divine service was held by the spiritual leader of the Muslims of St. Petersburg and the North-West region of Russia Ravil hazrat Pancheev.
