50 foreign flights with humanitarian aid arrive in Pakistan

Pakistan expresses gratitude to the international community for the provided humanitarian aid, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, spokesperson for the Pakistan's MFA, told a news conference on Thursday, noting that 50 foreign flights with humanitarian aid have arrived in the Islamic republic.


"Many of our friends and partners have stepped forward to support the government [of Pakistan] in its efforts to help [those affected by natural disasters]. Fifty flights of humanitarian aid have arrived in Pakistan from China, France, Jordan, Qatar, Turkey, Turkmenistan, the UAE, UNICEF, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Uzbekistan and the UN World Food Program. At the same time, many countries have provided financial and in-kind support," he said. - "We thank the international community for their generous support in our hour of need."


Monsoon rains in Pakistan since June have caused widespread flooding and landslides across the country. In early August, the government of the Islamic republic declared a state of emergency in the country because of the severe flooding situation and appealed to the UN and other international organizations for urgent humanitarian aid. According to official data, the number of flood victims reached 1,391; 12,722 residents were wounded. The consequences of natural disasters in Pakistan have negatively affected the lives of more than 33 million people.
