Abbas congratulated Erdogan on his victory in presidential elections

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas spoke by phone with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday evening and congratulated him on his victory in the second round of the presidential elections held on May 28, a statement of his office released by the Ramallah-based WAFA news agency read.


It stated that Abbas "conveyed his sincere congratulations to President Erdogan on his re-election and on the electoral success of the Justice and Development Party he leads, which won a majority of seats in parliament." "Palestinians seek full cooperation and fraternal coordination with Turkey," Abbas stressed. - "We are proud of the historic relations that bind our peoples and appreciate President Erdogan's principled and unwavering stance in support of the Palestinian right cause."


He said, "The Palestinians appreciate Turkey's continued support in all international forums in defense of their inalienable rights and the Islamic holy sites of Jerusalem."


Earlier, King Abdullah II of Jordan sent a congratulatory message to President Erdogan on the occasion of his re-election. "His Majesty reaffirmed his desire to develop Jordanian-Turkish relations in a way that is in the interests of the two states and peoples and that promotes peace and prosperity," the royal office said in a statement reported by Petra News Agency.
