Abu Dhabi airport opens multi-faith prayer room

A multi-faith prayer room has officially been opened at Abu Dhabi International Airport on June 30. The room provides a quiet space for passengers and airport staff all religions to practice their faith.

 

 

The Department of Community Development (DCD) Abu Dhabi opened the prayer room in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Airports. This initiative is part of wider efforts in the UAE to promote religious tolerance.

 

 

"We are pleased to [...] welcome passengers of all faiths from all over the world to Abu Dhabi", said  Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, chairman of DCD. 

 

 

Last week, DCD said it was set to license 19 non-Muslim places of worship like churches, temples, and gurudwaras for Sikhs all across Abu Dhabi. There are currently 17 Christian churches in the capital as well as one gurudwara. A Hindu temple is to be opened in Abu Dhabi In 2022.
