Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov who spoke about the results of the 5th session of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum at the ministerial level, which has ended today in Moscow with the participation of 14 Heads of Foreign Ministers of the Arab League member states.
According to Lavrov, the session participants confirmed the necessity to overcome conflicts for the Middle East and North Africa exclusively by peaceful means, through a comprehensive national dialogue.
«We are also united in the rejection of attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of the states of the Middle East and North Africa. We spoke in favor of respecting their independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity in full compliance with the principles of international law and the UN Charter», the Russian Foreign Minister pointed out, in particular.
Special attention was paid to the situation between Israel and the Arab countries.
«We have a general rejection of the well-known US proclamation on the recognition of the occupied Golan Heights as the territory of Israel», Lavrov stressed.
The declaration adopted on the basis of the discussion, he said, spelled out a commitment to create an independent Palestinian state in the secure and recognized borders of 1967 with possible equivalent exchanges and the capital in East Jerusalem. Furthermore, the declaration approved a three-year Action Plan for the implementation of the principles, goals and objectives of the Russian-Arab Forum, covering the period from 2019 to 2021.
It was agreed to continue to work together in the interests of the Libyan settlement, as well as the final eradication of terrorism and extremist ideology in the region.
In addition, a number of practical steps have been agreed that are aimed at increasing the quality of interaction between Russia and the Arab countries in the trade, economic, scientific, educational and cultural spheres.
