Amrullah Saleh, First Vice President of Afghanistan, has stated that he does not accept any deals imposed by circumstances with the radical Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation). This was reported by the Afghan TV channel 1TV on Friday.
Saleh stressed that he is "trying to change the situation and is convinced that the Taliban will be defeated." He is determined as a matter of principle "not to accept any deals imposed by circumstances" with the radicals.
Saleh's position became known against the background of the words of Afghan Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar, who confirmed on Thursday that Kabul had offered the Taliban to agree to govern the country jointly. Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid pointed out that the movement will not accept Kabul's offer of power-sharing and ceasefire, and their goal is to end foreign intervention and form an Islamic government in the country, and if official Kabul goes for it, the Taliban will be ready for a truce. Otherwise, the movement will continue to fight.
Taliban supporters continue to advance into central provincial cities across the country. According to their spokesman, militants on Friday took control of the city of Tarinkot (the center of Uruzgan province in the central part of the country), and later captured the city of Puli Alam (the center of eastern Logar province). In the latter, radicals attacked the governor's office, and officials and their leadership were forced to surrender.
