At least 2,245 Afghan citizens living in Iran have returned to their homeland. The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation in the radical Taliban (banned in the Russian Federation) formed government of Afghanistan announced this on its Twitter page on Thursday.
It said the Afghan migrants were returned to the country through the Islam Qala checkpoint in Herat province in western Afghanistan. 307 out of more than 2 thousand people went to the Afghan branch of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), where they were provided with food and necessary assistance.
The ministry did not specify whether the migrants voluntarily returned home or were deported.
On March 16, the Afghan agency Aamaj News reported that 1,880 Afghan nationals returned home from Iran. At that time, most Afghans entered the country voluntarily, but some of them were deported by the authorities of the Islamic republic.
