Participants at the third ministerial conference of Afghanistan's neighboring countries have decided to continue delivering humanitarian aid to the country to overcome the crisis, Wang Yi, Foreign Minister and member of China's State Council, said in a statement released Thursday.

"Afghanistan is facing serious humanitarian problems. A decision has been made to continue providing humanitarian aid to the Afghan people," he was quoted as saying in a Chinese MFA statement.

"We urge the US and Western countries to really fulfill their primary responsibility for the economic reconstruction of Afghanistan," Wang Yi said. The conference also called on international financial institutions to actively provide liquidity to Afghanistan.

The US government should take real steps to unfreeze Afghanistan's foreign assets and lift existing sanctions. Wang Yi said the countries of the expanded troika should support local authorities in rebuilding the country.

"Especially the unfreezing of Afghanistan's overseas assets and the lifting of abusive sanctions. The US should take real steps," the Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement.
