15 June 2020

Joint air defense exercises of Russia and Egypt will be held in 2021 on the territory of the Russian Federation,  the head of the military air defense of the Armed forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Alexander Leonov said.

For the first time, such air defense exercises of the two countries "Arrow of Friendship-2019" were held last year.

"As part of our further cooperation with specialists of the Egyptian air defense forces, work to conduct a joint exercise in 2021 on the territory of the Russian Federation has been organized," Leonov said in an interview with "Natsionalnaya Oborona" (National Defense) magazine.

He particularly noted the "full mutual understanding" of the numbers of combat crews at the past exercises. This is explained by the fact that a significant number of Egyptian officers were trained in Russia on the basis of the military Academy of military air defense, as well as in the 106th and 726th air defense training centers of the Ground forces.
