Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said in a meeting with Jordanian Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Minister Ayman al-Safadi that the Syrian government is taking all necessary measures to create conditions for the return of Syrian refugees to their homes. This was stated in a statement released on Monday by the Syrian leader's office.

According to the statement, al-Assad stressed that "the Syrian state is taking all the measures - both at the legislative and legal levels, and in terms of [achieving national] reconciliation - in order to ensure better conditions for the return of refugees." He also recalled the need to refrain from politicizing the issue, adding that it was "humanitarian and moral."

For his part, the Jordanian foreign minister pointed to the kingdom's readiness to strengthen cooperation with Syria, including on the issue of refugee return.

Al-Safadi is on an official visit to the Arab republic. On Monday, he held a meeting with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Mekdad, Sana reported.
