Algeria’s Chief of Staff of the National People's Army (NPA), Army General Saïd Chengriha, has asserted that Africa's internal problems should be addressed by the continent itself. Speaking during a meeting with Niger's Minister of State for National Defense, Salifou Modi, Chengriha emphasized Algeria’s belief in resolving African issues through the continent’s own efforts.
"Algeria, true to its immutable principles, remains convinced that solutions to Africa’s internal challenges must come from within, utilizing the capabilities, skills, and common sense of the continent’s nations," Chengriha stated, as reported by the Algerian Ministry of National Defense.
He highlighted the current phase as both challenging and crucial, calling for a strategic vision that integrates coordinated political, diplomatic, military, security, and economic cooperation to foster lasting stability.
Chengriha reiterated Algeria’s commitment to principles of good neighborliness, respect for state sovereignty and independence, and opposition to foreign interference.
Minister Modi expressed agreement with Algeria on security issues discussed during their talks and voiced a desire to enhance cooperation between Niger and Algeria based on mutual respect and coherence.
Modi’s visit was part of a delegation led by Nigerian Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine, who met with Algerian Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui. Zeine conveyed gratitude and appreciation for Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s stance against military intervention in Niger following the summer 2023 change of power.
Algeria and Niger, sharing a border of over 950 kilometers, have reinforced their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and addressing regional challenges collaboratively.
