Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf has expressed his lack of confidence in the successful resolution of the conflict in Niger should a military intervention be carried out by the member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
"Including within ECOWAS itself, there's no certainty that a military invasion would yield a favorable outcome. Initiating a military intervention carries uncertainties about its ultimate result. So, ECOWAS exercises prudence and exercises maximum caution when considering this option," he remarked in an interview with The Washington Post.
The Algerian minister highlighted that he is personally unaware of any instances where military interventions in such scenarios have achieved success. He cited the international coalition's military intervention in Libya as an example, which resulted in "a disaster for the entire region." The minister emphasized that ECOWAS remains committed to prioritizing a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing situation.
