Algeria says production of Sputnik V vaccine will begin in the coming weeks

Production of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus Sputnik V in Algeria will start in the next few weeks. This was announced by Kamel Mansouri, Director-General of the National Agency of Pharmaceutical Products of Algeria, who was quoted by Algerie1 television channel on Tuesday.

 

"Production of the Russian vaccine against COVID-19 Sputnik V will start in Algeria in the coming weeks," the channel quotes the statement of the head of the national regulator.


According to him, negotiations with the Russian side on the issue are "at a very advanced" stage. He noted that it was time for Algeria to move from being an importer of the coronavirus vaccine to being an exporter.


On January 29, the first batch of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus Sputnik V arrived in Algeria.

 

Sputnik V vaccine was registered in the North African republic on January 10, 2021. Earlier, the RDIF reported that supplies of the drug to Algeria will be ensured through international partners in India, China, South Korea and other states. According to the head of the RDIF Kirill Dmitriev, the supplies will allow to protect the health of Algerian citizens and ensure the full recovery of economic activity.


The first case of coronavirus infection in the Arab country was recorded on February 25, 2020. Since then, the number of people infected has exceeded 106,000, the total number of deaths has exceeded 2,800, with more than 72,000 people recovering. The government daily urges citizens to remain vigilant and strictly observe hygiene and social distance measures to contain the pandemic.
