Israel’s actions in the occupied Palestinian territories are a result of its immunity and lack of accountability, according to Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amar Bendjama.
"The ongoing violations of international humanitarian law, like those we see today in Gaza, reflect our collective failure. The international community is not fulfilling its obligations," Algeria Radio quoted Bendjama as saying during an address to fellow UN Security Council members.
According to the diplomat, "the behavior of the Zionist (Israeli – TASS) occupier in the occupied Palestinian territories is explained by its impunity and lack of accountability." He warned that "what we are witnessing today in Gaza sets a dangerous precedent for current and future conflicts, where no rules are observed."
As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Algeria plays an active role in shaping initiatives aimed at resolving the Middle East conflict.
