Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev sent congratulations to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, expressing confidence in the possibility of further strengthening them.
"I am convinced that through joint efforts, we will be able to continue to implement topical tasks of bilateral cooperation and open new opportunities to strengthen relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation in the interests of our peoples and countries," the message, published on Monday on the official website of the Azerbaijani president, reads.
Aliyev stressed that Russian-Azerbaijani relations have successfully developed and strengthened in the spirit of strategic partnership over the past 30 years. "It is especially gratifying that the current anniversary year of the establishment of diplomatic relations coincided with the signing of the Declaration on allied cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation. This important document has fixed a qualitatively new, the highest level to which the relations between our states for the thirty-year period have reached," the telegram says.
Aliyev emphasized the role of humanitarian and cultural interaction between Baku and Moscow in strengthening bilateral cooperation. "Cooperation in the field of culture and education, all-out support for the Russian language and Russian culture at the state level in Azerbaijan, teaching in Russian in Azerbaijani schools and higher educational institutions vividly confirm the importance we attach to the humanitarian agenda of our partnership," the Azerbaijani president added.
Diplomatic relations between the countries were established on April 4, 1992, when the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan Huseyn-Aga Sadikov and Russia Andrey Kozyrev signed a relevant protocol.
