Aliyev Says Azerbaijan Refrain from Supplying Weapons to Ukraine

25 April

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has said that Baku will not be supplying weapons to Ukraine, despite receiving requests to do so.

"We've extended humanitarian and financial assistance to Ukraine exceeding 30 million euros. Our involvement in the reconstruction efforts of Irpin, a city with a significant Azerbaijani diaspora, underscores our commitment. However, our support does not extend to arms supply. Despite requests, we openly and unequivocally state that we will not provide weapons," Aliyev stated while addressing questions during the international forum "COP29 and Green Vision for Azerbaijan" at ADA University in Baku on April 23. The complete transcript of the Azerbaijani leader's remarks to the forum participants was made available on the head of state's website on April 26.

Aliyev expressed his belief that the conflict could have been prevented. "Was there an opportunity for Ukrainian leadership in previous years to foster constructive relations with Russia? I am firmly convinced there was. Just look at Russian-Azerbaijani relations. As neighbors, we've forged robust partnerships, mutually respecting each other's sovereignty without meddling in internal affairs. Couldn't a similar dynamic have existed between Russia and Ukraine? Absolutely," emphasized the Azerbaijani president.
