Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev considers the risks of aggravation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh minimal. He gave this assessment while receiving Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk on Thursday.

"The post-conflict situation is generally developing positively, the risks of escalation are minimal," Aliyev said at the meeting, a fragment of which was shown on the state-run AzTV channel.

The head of state noted that the work within the trilateral working group chaired by the deputy prime ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia was going well. "Very intensive consultations are held. "I am glad that the decision [to establish a working group to unblock economic and transport communications in the region] proves to be right and, most importantly, there is already a concrete result," the President stressed. He recalled that five meetings of the trilateral working group have already been held, both in person and in the form of videoconferences.

"So there is a topic for discussion, and this topic is important today both in terms of economic preferences, and in terms of regional cooperation, and strengthening security and peace in our region," Aliyev added. According to him, "the more elements of cooperation there are, the stronger security and stability will be".

Overchuk, in turn, said he intends to discuss the work being done within the trilateral working group of deputy prime ministers to unblock economic and transport ties in the region. "Indeed, we are making some progress and the work is being done in close contact. We are constantly in touch with both the Azerbaijani side and the Armenian side," the Russian Deputy Prime Minister said.
