Washington's plan for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement, known as the "deal of the century", does not meet the interests of resolving the conflict. This opinion was expressed in an interview for RIA Novosti by the Ambassador of the Arab League in Moscow, Jaber Habib Jaber.

"After the conversation about the preparation of the American plan for peace in the Middle East began, expectations gradually fell in the light of the steps of the American administration, in particular, in connection with the transfer of the American Embassy to Jerusalem, the recognition of the occupied city as the capital of Israel and the recognition of the decision to annex the Golan heights", the diplomat said.

"The deal of the century", according to Jaber, "showed a sharp change in the US policy regarding the Palestinian-Israeli settlement and the way it is resolved, and is a source of anxiety and strong concern in the Arab world", and therefore does not meet "the interests of peace and a long-term and just solution to the conflict".

US President Donald Trump announced the details of the "deal of the century" on January 28. According to the document, Jerusalem is recognized as the capital of Israel, and Palestine becomes an independent but demilitarized state, effectively deprived of control over its borders.

As the future capital of Palestine, the plan proposes the village of Abu Dis in the Eastern suburbs of Jerusalem, located behind a security fence.

Palestine categorically rejected the US plan. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Arab League and the European Union made statements about the document’s unacceptability.
