Ambassador to Russia: Iran ready to restore nuclear deal if US shows flexibility

12 January 2023

Iran is ready to conclude a sustainable agreement on Iran's nuclear program if the United States shows political will. Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali said this in an interview with Izvestia published on Thursday.

"Iran has always stated its readiness to conclude a good and sustainable agreement. If the United States, with a strong political will, pays attention to its national interests and the interests of other parties to the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran's nuclear program - TASS), as well as urgently shows flexibility, we will reach confident terms on the agreement," he said.

On July 14, 2015, Iran and the "six" international mediators (Russia, Great Britain, China, the USA, France and Germany) reached an agreement on settlement of the problem concerning the Iranian nuclear program. On October 18, 2015, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action developed by them entered into force. Under the JCPOA, Iran is allowed to produce low-enriched uranium with a limit of 300 kg, as well as heavy water of no more than 130 tons, to send surpluses exceeding these levels to other countries for sale or storage.
