Turkey's financial ties with Russia are legal and the countries have "good neighborly relations" in the economic sphere. This was stated by Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Noureddin Nebati in an interview with the Financial Times published on Tuesday.
According to the minister, "opposition elements" inside and outside Turkey are "deliberately raising questions" about financial ties with Russia.
"Turkey acts cautiously within the international financial system. It will not behave in a way that will lead to disruptions in the international financial system. We make that clear. Everything comes to us legally," Nebati said.
Several Western governments have raised concerns that Ankara may be helping Moscow circumvent sanctions imposed on Russia.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to a request for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. The United States, EU member states, and their allies responded by imposing large-scale sanctions against Russia and stepping up arms supplies to Kiev.
