Antonov: US refuses to acknowledge failure of plans to defeat Russia

20 July 2023

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov stated on Wednesday that Washington lacks the courage to acknowledge the failure of its plans to defeat Russia on the battlefield. He made these remarks while commenting on the recent decision of the United States to provide additional military aid to Ukraine.

"The American authorities do not have the courage to admit that their plans to defeat Russia on the battlefield are failing. Ukrainian neo-Nazis were defeated by Russian army troops. In an attempt to compensate for their frustration, Washington is sending new missiles and ammunition to its proxies, expecting it to harm us," Antonov said in a statement published on the Telegram channel of the Russian embassy in Washington.

"Every day we see new evidence that the perceived invulnerability of Western-made equipment is nothing more than a myth. No multimillion-dollar package will alleviate the desperate situation of the 'Kiev junta'," the diplomat asserted. Antonov said, "I am confident that American aid will only prolong the agony of President Zelensky's regime and result in new casualties, including innocent civilians. The blood of these casualties will rest solely on the conscience of those who hold misguided beliefs about inflicting a 'strategic defeat' on Russia," the ambassador emphasized.

On Wednesday, the Pentagon announced a $1.3 billion military aid package for Kiev, which includes ammunition for short- and medium-range NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems, 152 mm artillery shells, mine-clearing equipment, TOW anti-tank missile systems, Phoenix Ghost kamikaze drones, Switchblade barrage munitions, precision aviation munitions, counter-drone, and electronic warfare equipment detection equipment. Additionally, the aid package involves the transfer of 150 tanker trucks, 115 vehicles for towing equipment, 50 vehicles for equipment evacuation, and one system for ensuring port security to Ukraine.
