Around 1 million citizens of Uzbekistan are currently working in Russia, Khodjaakbar Faizullakhodzhaev, the Deputy Head of Uzbekistan's Agency for External Labor Migration, said.
"Currently, about 1 million Uzbek citizens are temporarily working in Russia, with the number changing based on the season," Faizullakhodzhaev told the National News Agency (AZA). He also mentioned that they also work in South Korea, Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Turkey, Lithuania, and others. The Agency for External Labor Migration is actively negotiating cooperation with 398 major employers and recruitment agencies across dozens of countries.
Previously, it was announced that the Agency for External Labor Migration of Uzbekistan facilitates organized recruitment of citizens for employment in Russia, focusing on sectors like construction, logistics, automotive industry, agriculture, and industrial production.
According to estimates from specialized agencies, the total number of Uzbeks working abroad is approximately 2 million individuals. Reportedly, about 80% of them are based in the Russian Federation, with a considerable portion of migrants returning home during the winter months.
