The Arab League (LAS) remains committed to the principle of preserving the sovereignty and independence of countries, believing that the only way out of the crisis in Ukraine will be a diplomatic solution. This was stated in a statement issued Wednesday evening following the 157th session of the regional community held in Cairo at the level of foreign ministers.

"We reaffirm the Arab countries' commitment to the principles of international law and the UN Charter, which are based on preserving the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of states," it said. - "We point to the need to work toward an early diplomatic solution, which the Foreign Affairs Council considers the only way out of this crisis, which will help save innocent lives and prevent the already tragic humanitarian situation from worsening".

"The League, seeing signs of a further escalation of the crisis, is committed to the need not to politicize the work of international and specialized technical organizations in various fields, and to avoid intensifying diplomatic and political confrontation and any double standards at the international level," the communiqué stated.

LAS Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, speaking at the Council meeting last afternoon, warned that the Ukrainian crisis threatens the Arab region with serious economic consequences, including food security, which requires "deliberate actions" that will minimize the possible damage. He also believes that Arab countries should be guided by "national, in particular, and Arab interests in general" in their positions on what is happening".
