The Arab League is concerned about rising energy prices as a result of the Ukrainian crisis, Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said on Monday at a press conference following talks between the Arab League's contact group on Ukraine and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"The other point is the rise in energy prices. It also undermines all the efforts to develop the Arab states, which have been made consistently, in the interest of maintaining the sustainability of national economies. These efforts at one time kept prices at acceptable levels," he said.
The Arab League Secretary-General stressed that the energy situation should be in the interest of all Arab countries in the matter of economic development. "We do not view the situation only through the prism of general Arab interests, we are well aware that it is necessary to protect the peace and security of the whole world and return the development of the world economy to normal," the head of the organization said.
