Any invasion or partial occupation of Lebanese territory will be considered an attack on pan-Arab national security, stated members of the Arab League following an emergency meeting of the organization’s Council at the level of permanent representatives in Cairo.
"We condemn Israel’s ongoing barbaric aggression against Lebanon and call for its immediate cessation, as such actions pose serious risks to regional stability. We also affirm that we will regard any invasion of Lebanese territory or occupation of any part of it as an attack on pan-Arab national security," the communiqué released by the Iraqi news portal Shafaq News declared.
The participants of the emergency meeting expressed "full solidarity with Lebanon in the face of this aggression" and urged countries and international organizations planning to provide humanitarian aid to the Lebanese people to "speed up its delivery." The Arab League Council also voiced its support for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who was recently declared persona non grata in Israel, and for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
A day earlier, it was reported that the League planned to hold an emergency meeting at the level of permanent representatives to discuss the current situation in Lebanon and issues related to supporting its population. The meeting was convened at the request of Iraq.
On September 23, Israel launched its military operation "Northern Arrows" against the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, targeting military facilities of the group. The stated objective is to create safe conditions in northern border areas of Israel so that tens of thousands of residents can return to their homes. During one of Israel’s airstrikes on September 27, Hezbollah's Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah was killed in Beirut. On the night of October 1, the Israeli army announced the beginning of a ground operation in the southern border areas of Lebanon.
