Arab Ministers to Meet with Spanish Foreign Minister After Recognition of Palestine

Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares will meet with several Arab ministers on May 29 following Spain's recognition of Palestine as a state, diplomatic sources reported to TASS.

 

According to the sources, "on Wednesday, Minister Albares is hosting the Arab contact group on Palestine, which welcomes Spain's decision to recognize the Palestinian state." High-level leaders from Jordan, Qatar, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will be in attendance. Additionally, a meeting with Egyptian authorities is scheduled for June 3.

 

Previously, the governments of Ireland, Spain, and Norway announced their decisions to recognize the statehood of Palestine. In response, the Israeli Foreign Minister announced the recall of ambassadors from Dublin, Madrid, and Oslo for consultations. Simultaneously, the heads of the diplomatic missions of Ireland, Spain, and Norway in Israel were summoned to the Israeli Foreign Ministry, where they received a formal protest.

 

To date, more than 140 of the 193 UN member countries recognize Palestinian statehood, including Russia.
