Armenian PM praises Russian EMERCOM activities in Karabakh

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan highly appreciated the activities of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations to restore normal life in Nagorno-Karabakh and provide humanitarian aid to the citizens at a meeting with the head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations Yevgeny Zinichev. This was reported by the press service of the Armenian government.


"We are interested in the further development of cooperation with Russia in all spheres, including security, economy and humanitarian sphere. We highly appreciate the activities of the Russian Emergencies Ministry to restore normal life in Nagorno-Karabakh," the prime minister said, noting the need to develop and implement joint new programs in various spheres. Pashinyan also said that the Armenian government attaches importance to the continuous development of strategic cooperation with Russia and underscored Russia's key role in strengthening peace and stability in the region.


Zinichev spoke in detail about the humanitarian activities of the Russian Emergencies Ministry in Nagorno-Karabakh and noted that the transportation of humanitarian goods and other works are carried out without problems, in close cooperation with Armenian partners. The interlocutors discussed issues related to the realization of the potential of the Armenian-Russian humanitarian center, further cooperation in the field of emergency response.


On September 27, the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh escalated and active hostilities broke out there. Baku and Yerevan have disputed ownership of the region since February 1988, when it announced it was seceding from the Azerbaijani SSR. Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on the full cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh on November 9. According to the document, the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides stop at the occupied positions, then a number of areas come under Baku's control, and Russian peacekeepers are deployed along the line of contact and the Lachin corridor.
