The countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have issued a final statement following the summit in Jakarta, where they urged Israel and Palestine to engage in peace talks in order to stabilize the situation in the Middle East.
"We have expressed our concern regarding the evolving situation in the Middle East. We stress the importance of a comprehensive, fair, and sustainable resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a means to attain peace and stability in the Middle East," the document read.
"We have called upon both sides to take proactive measures to advance the dialogue and collaborate towards restarting negotiations, ultimately achieving a lasting peace," the statement emphasized. The document underlined that ASEAN states endorse the two-state solution, which entails Israel reverting to its pre-1967 borders and the establishment of an independent Arab State of Palestine.
The Israeli military conducted another aggressive in Jenin in the West Bank, marking the second such an action this week. During it, they detained a Palestinian individual suspected of having connections to terrorist activities. In a similar operation on Monday, three individuals affiliated with the Palestinian organization Hamas were also detained.
