Azerbaijan announced a strike on a stronghold of the Armenian military

The Azerbaijani military attacked an Armenian stronghold, and the situation on the border remains tense, the press service of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported.


"Accurate fire of our units in night battles with the use of artillery, mortars and tanks destroyed a strong point, artillery installations, vehicles and manpower of the enemy," the source said. He said that senior Lieutenant Makhmudov Rashad Rashid oglu was killed in the battle.


"At present, the operational conditions are under the control of our troops, and decisive measures are being taken against the enemy. The enemy side hides information about losses, " the Ministry of Defense of the Republic added.


Yerevan said earlier that Azerbaijan resumed on Monday morning artillery shelling of the Armenian positions. The head of the Armenian Defense Ministry ordered the personnel to be restrained.


There is a conflict between Yerevan and Baku over the status of Nagorno-Karabakh which declared its secession from the Azerbaijani USSR in February 1988.


Azerbaijan lost control of the autonomy and seven surrounding areas during the armed conflict in 1992-1994. Negotiations on a peaceful settlement have been held since 1992 within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, led by three co — chairs-Russia, the United States and France.


A new escalation began on Sunday on the border of the Tovuz region of Azerbaijan with the Tavush region of Armenia. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry announced that the Armenian military fired on its positions. According to Baku, three Azerbaijani soldiers were killed, and the Armenians also suffered losses.


At the same time, the Armenian Defense Ministry stated that the Azerbaijani military tried to capture the Armenian stronghold with the support of artillery. According to Yerevan, Azerbaijan suffered losses, while Armenia did not.
