Azerbaijani Ministry of Health approves use of Sputnik V

Azerbaijani Ministry of Health approved the use of Russian drug against coronavirus Sputnik V for vaccination of the population. This was reported on Friday by the department's press service.


"The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan has approved the use of Sputnik V vaccine produced in the Russian Federation," the report said.


It is noted that Sputnik V has passed registration in several dozen states and is successfully used for vaccination against coronavirus, showing high efficiency. "Negotiations are underway to bring the vaccine into the country in the near future," the Health Ministry added.


On Thursday, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov signed an order to purchase a batch of Sputnik V. The document indicated that the republic will import the drug within 180 days.


Vaccination of the population against coronavirus began in Azerbaijan on January 18. Currently, the CoronaVac drug of Chinese company Sinovac Biotech is used for this purpose. A contract was signed with the company for the supply of 4 million doses. According to the Ministry of Health, about 444,000 people have already been vaccinated in the country.
