The Jordanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan was summoned to the Foreign Ministry of the Republic in connection with information about the supply of weapons to Armenia, the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti on Monday.

"On July twenty-seventh, the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Azerbaijan was summoned to the Foreign Ministry. A meeting was held between Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov and Ambassador Sami Abdullah Gosheh. During the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov discussed with Jordanian Ambassador, including the issue of arms supplies to Armenia. The Deputy Foreign Minister noted that... the news about the sale of weapons by Jordan... (to Armenia-ed.) was met with discontent from the general public," the Foreign Ministry reported.

The Jordanian Ambassador, in turn, said that he "understands the concerns of the Azerbaijani side".

"Given the strategic nature of relations with Azerbaijan, he promised to make every effort to resolve the situation," the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said.

The fighting on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border has been going on since July 12 in the neighboring regions of Tovuz and Tavush, which also border Georgia and are located several hundred kilometers from Nagorno-Karabakh. Later, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry stated that the escalation had spread to the contact line in Karabakh - Agdam, Khojavend, Fizuli, Jabrayil, Goranboy, and Terter regions. The Armenian Defense Ministry, in turn, reports on shootings only in the Northern section of the border, hundreds of kilometers from Karabakh and near the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic. The situation in Karabakh remains relatively calm.

According to Baku, 12 Azerbaijani soldiers, including a General, were killed as a result of the conflict on the border. The Armenian side announced the death of six soldiers, as well as the wounding of nine soldiers and one civilian. Azerbaijan and Armenia blame each other for the attacks. A number of countries and international organizations expressed concern about the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and called on the parties to engage in dialogue. The Russian Foreign Ministry said it was ready to act as a mediator to stabilize the situation in the region.
