Azerbaijan calls on Russia and Ukraine for direct dialogue to prevent further escalation of the situation. The country's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said this when he spoke by video on Wednesday at the UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva.

"Azerbaijan deeply regrets that the crisis in Ukraine continues to cause significant loss of life, especially among civilians. Civilian lives and civilian infrastructure must be protected, and human rights must be respected in all circumstances. The growing humanitarian crisis requires measures to reduce the impact of the situation on civilians. <...> Azerbaijan reiterates the call for dialogue to prevent further escalation of the situation and stresses the need for direct talks between the parties," the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister said.

Bayramov reminded that Azerbaijan provided humanitarian aid to Ukraine, sending medicines, medical equipment and other essentials to the country.
