Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina said her country needs Russia's help to build a second nuclear power plant, the Dhaka Tribune reported on Monday.
"After the completion of the Ruppur nuclear power plant, we will start building another nuclear power plant in the south of the country. We need Russia's continued support in this matter," the newspaper quoted the Bangladesh prime minister as saying during her meeting with Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev.
According to the newspaper, Sheikh Hasina also thanked Russia for assistance in the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. At the same time, she expressed hope for Russia's help in training specialists in nuclear power plant maintenance.
On October 10, the installation ceremony of the reactor vessel of the country's first nuclear power plant Ruppur was held in Bangladesh. It is located on the eastern bank of the Padma River, 160 kilometers from the capital of Bangladesh, the city of Dhaka.
The station is being designed and built according to the Russian project of generation 3+. The engineering division of Rosatom is responsible for the design and construction of the facility. The power plant will consist of two power generating units with VVER-1200-type reactors, which have a 60-year lifecycle and may be extended for another 20 years. Construction of the first and second power units is currently underway.
