Bangladeshi authorities have contacted their Russian counterparts to request delivery of Russian Sputnik V vaccine from the coronavirus at the earliest opportunity, Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Abul Kalam Abdul Momen told RIA Novosti.
The Russian Ministry of Health in August registered the world's first vaccine Sputnik V to prevent COVID-19, developed by Gamaleya National Research Center and produced jointly with the Russian Direct Investment Fund. The vaccine implies the introduction of two components of the preparation with an interval of three weeks.
"We are in touch with Russia. In this regard, our honorable Minister of Health has already sent an application to his Russian colleague asking for a proposal for the vaccine at the earliest opportunity," the Minister said.
He also added that his country's embassy in Moscow was coordinating with the Russian authorities and the Russian Federation promised that Bangladesh was on the list of priority countries receiving the vaccine.
According to the Minister, Bangladesh is working tirelessly to protect its citizens from the pandemic.
"We are pleased that Russia is in the final stage of developing a vaccine against COVID-19 called Sputnik V. I congratulate the Russian authorities and Gamaleya center scientists for their dedication, commitment and success in this field," the Minister added.
