03 December 2019

President of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad received the Russain delegation led by Russia’s Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev. The main topic of discussion was the preparation for the next round of talks in the Astana format and the situation in the North-East of Syria and in Idlib province.

In particular, as noted, "the parties confirmed the common Russian-Syrian position on the need to continue the fight against terrorism and prevent the use of civilians by militants as a human shield in order to turn Idlib into a permanent shelter for terrorists."

As for the preparation for the inter-Syrian talks in the capital of Kazakhstan, "the parties reached a consensus on the importance of continuing consultations and coordination in the fight against attempts by some countries to intervene in the process and divert it from the main goal – the realization of the interests of the Syrian people in preserving the territorial unity and sovereignty of the SAR".

Earlier it was announced that the next round of talks on Syria will be held in Nur-Sultan on December 10-11.
