13 March

Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has called for the establishment of a unified transportation strategy among the Turkic countries during a meeting of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).

"In the collaborative efforts of the Turkic states, the transport sector holds a pivotal role. We should begin formulating a unified transport strategy. By pooling our resources, we can secure agreements with our international partners and major investors in this sector. I would like to underscore the significance of Turkmenistan's initiative to restore the Great Silk Road. The Turkic states play a key role in this direction," Berdimuhamedov stated, as reported by the official newspaper "Neytralny Turkmenistan."

Berdimuhamedov further highlighted the historical significance of the Turkic belt, noting that it has had a profound positive impact on human progress over the centuries. This geographical linkage facilitated the exchange of knowledge and achievements across Eastern and Western cultures, contributing to the advancement in various fields.

"I believe we must reconsider and adapt to this grand historical mission of the Turkic peoples. This adaptation should lead to the creation of a new cooperative framework within the Eurasian space. By defining its primary directions in politics, economy, trade, culture, and worldview, we must ensure this initiative is sustainable and consistent," Berdimuhamedov emphasized.

The elders agreed with Berdimuhamedov's views. In the final communiqué of the Council meeting, they underscored the importance of restoring the Great Silk Road, with a central role for the Turkic belt, which has significantly influenced human development. The document also highlighted the necessity to synchronize the efforts of the Turkic states within the context of global and regional organizations. It reaffirmed the importance of enhancing the OTS's role in addressing global and regional challenges.
