Biden: The US supports a Palestinian-Israeli settlement based on the 1967 borders

15 July 2022

The United States supports the resumption of direct Palestinian-Israeli negotiations and a resolution of the Middle East conflict based on the 1967 borders with land swaps. This was reiterated Friday at talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem by his American counterpart Joe Biden.

According to a written statement issued by the White House following the meeting, "President Biden reaffirmed the strong ties between the Palestinian and American peoples and stressed his commitment to a two-state solution [to the Middle East problem] based on the 1967 borders with agreed upon land exchanges by the Israelis and Palestinians." "He also stressed the importance of direct negotiations leading to an independent, sovereign, viable and undivided Palestinian state next door to the State of Israel, so that both have secure and recognized borders that allow the two peoples to live side by side in peace and security," the document noted.
