US President Joe Biden believes the relationship between Washington and Riyadh needs to be reconsidered following OPEC+'s decision to cut oil production.
"Yes," the president said Tuesday night in an interview with CNN, responding to a question about whether the United States should reconsider its relationship with Saudi Arabia because "the Saudis have sided with Russia against the United States."
According to Biden, Riyadh will face "consequences because of what they did [together] with Russia." He added that he would not go into detail about any of Washington's actions, but assured that "there will be consequences."
Earlier, the White House said that the decision of the OPEC+ association to cut oil production demonstrates that Saudi Arabia is aligning its energy policy with Russia.
During a face-to-face meeting in Vienna on October 5, the member states to the OPEC+ agreed to cut oil production by 2 million bpd starting in November and extended the deal until the end of 2023. Russia and Saudi Arabia are supposed to be able to reduce oil production by 526 thousand bpd each compared to the level of August, up to 10.478 million bpd. The total level of oil production of the alliance countries will be 41.856 mln bpd. Washington sharply criticized the OPEC+ decision.
