US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, the pursuit of a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and the activities of Yemeni rebel group Houthis from the "Ansar Allah" movement in the Red Sea. These discussions were confirmed by written statements from Matthew Miller, Head of the State Department's press office.
During his meeting with the Saudi Crown Prince in Jeddah, Blinken stressed the urgency of addressing humanitarian needs in Gaza. He reiterated the US's commitment to achieving a lasting resolution to the Gaza crisis and establishing a future Palestinian state with security assurances for Israel.
The discussions between the US secretary of state and the crown prince also encompassed the pursuit of enduring peace and security in the region, including efforts to bolster cooperation between the US and Saudi Arabia. They also touched upon the necessity of halting Houthi attacks that disrupt maritime navigation in the Red Sea and fostering a peace settlement in Yemen.
In their meeting in Cairo, Blinken and el-Sisi discussed ongoing negotiations for an immediate ceasefire lasting at least six weeks, as well as the release of all hostages. They also addressed endeavors to safeguard Palestinian civilians and humanitarian workers in Gaza, with a particular emphasis on Egypt's pivotal role in facilitating increased humanitarian assistance.
Blinken reiterated the US's stance against any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and reaffirmed a commitment to collaborating with Egypt to promote peace and stability in the region. This includes advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with security guarantees for Israel. Miller added that Blinken condemned Houthi attacks on merchant vessels in the Red Sea, emphasizing that such actions are unrelated to the situation concerning the Palestinians.
