Bogdanov met with Palestinian Ambassador to Russia

04 February 2020

Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov met with Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Russian Federation Abdel Hafiz Nofal at the latter’s request.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the situation in the Middle East with a focus on the prospects for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement in the light of "deal of the century" and statements of the  Council of the Arab League  on this issue.

US President Donald Trump announced the details of the "deal of the century" on January 28. According to the document, Jerusalem is recognized as the unified and indivisible capital of Israel, and Palestine becomes a fully independent, but demilitarized state, virtually devoid of control over its borders.

As the future capital of Palestine, the plan proposes the village of Abu Dis in the Eastern suburbs of Jerusalem, located behind a security fence.

Palestine categorically rejected the US plan. Statements about the unacceptability of the document were made by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League.
