Bogdanov describes situation involving Israel, its neighbors as 'vicious circle'

The situation with Israel and its neighbors is a "relapse" and a "vicious circle," because the problem has not been fundamentally solved, Russia's Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and African countries and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said on Monday.

"This keeps relapsing - that's the problem. The same thing all over again. We say it's a vicious circle," he said answering a TASS question about whether Israel's conflict with neighboring countries was waning. "The fact is that the problem has not been solved once and for all. We need to search for a mutually acceptable solution," the diplomat added.

Bogdanov stressed that an international legal framework has been created to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict, recalling the relevant UN Security Council resolution, and the Arab Peace Initiative.

"Talks between the parties need to be held on this basis," the deputy foreign minister noted.

The diplomat also emphasized that Russia’s position remained unchanged: "There should be two states - a Palestinian and an Israeli one - which should live as neighbors in peace and security, and then, there will be no problem."
