Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa, and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov received Austrian Ambassador in Moscow, Johannes Aigner, at the latter's request.
During the conversation, the diplomats discussed current Middle East issues. Special attention was paid to the current situation in Syria and Libya, as well as the prospects for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement, including in the context of Washington's announcement of the "deal of the century" and the reaction of the Arab League to it.
US President Donald Trump announced the details of the "deal of the century" on January 28. According to the document, Jerusalem is recognized as the unified and indivisible capital of Israel, and Palestine becomes a fully independent, but demilitarized state, virtually devoid of control over its borders.
As the future capital of Palestine, the plan proposes the village of Abu Dis in the Eastern suburbs of Jerusalem, located behind a security fence.
The Arab League has categorically rejected the "deal of the century", saying that it does not take into account the interests of the Palestinians.
