Mikhail Bogdanov, the Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, held telephone talks with the Qatari Ambassador in Moscow, Fahad al-Attiyah. The main topic of discussion, initiated by the Qatari side, as reported in the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry, was the situation in the Middle East, in particular, in Libya, as well as the Palestinian-Israeli settlement.
"During the conversation, the parties discussed topical issues of further development of multifaceted Russian-Qatari relations, as well as key aspects of the current situation in the Middle East and North Africa, with a focus on the situation in Libya and the Palestinian-Israeli settlement," the statement reads.
Earlier, Bogdanov said that Moscow, within the framework of the Quartet of mediators, is ready to continue promoting the establishment of the Palestinian-Israeli dialogue.
Last week, the head of the Palestinian National Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, said that Palestine had decided to terminate all agreements with Israel and the United States, amid the Israeli government's intentions to annex Palestinian lands.
The Palestinians demand that the future borders between the two sovereign states follow the lines that existed before the six-day war in 1967, with a possible exchange of territories. They hope to establish a state in the West Bank and the Gaza strip, and they want to make East Jerusalem their capital.
Israel refuses to return to the borders of 1967. The Israeli authorities have already declared Jerusalem their eternal and indivisible capital.
