Russian Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed the situation in the Middle East with the Bahraini Ambassador in Moscow, Ahmed al-Saati, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Bogdanov received al-Saati on Thursday at the latter's request.
"During the conversation, topical issues of further development of traditionally friendly Russian-Bahraini relations were discussed. During the exchange of views on key aspects of the Middle East agenda, the parties emphasied on the situation in Syria, the Palestinian-Israeli settlement and the Persian Gulf zone," the statement reads.
Earlier, on the initiative of the Palestinian side, Bogdanov had a telephone conversation with the Executive Secretary of the Fatah Central Committee, Jibril Rajoub.
During the conversation, the prospects for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement were also discussed. At the same time, special emphasis was placed on the priority task of restoring Palestinian national unity on the PLO's political platform through the establishment of a constructive dialogue between the leading Fatah and Hamas movements.
