Russian Presidential Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, held discussions with Saudi Ambassador to Moscow Abdel Rahman bin Suleiman Al-Ahmad. Their talks primarily focused on reviewing the outcomes of the BRICS summit, which took place in Johannesburg from August 22 to August 24.
"During their conversation, there was a candid exchange of perspectives on key matters related to the continued enhancement of multifaceted Russian-Saudi relations. The two sides also synchronized their positions on pressing issues of the regional and global agenda, with a particular focus on the outcomes of the recent BRICS summit in South Africa," the statement of the Russian MFA reads.
The meeting took place in response to a request from the Saudi side.
The BRICS summit occurred between August 22 and 24 in South Africa. After the summit, the leaders of the BRICS group issued the Johannesburg Declaration, highlighting the expansion of BRICS with the inclusion of new member countries. Starting in 2024, six new nations, namely Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, will become part of the association.
